Ford Posts an Unexpected Profit of $997 Million

The Ford Motor Company had its first profitable quarter in North America in over four years and said that, at least for now, it had stopped rapidly burning through its cash reserves. » Full Story on New York Times

I can almost hear the dems in congress trying to figure out a way to tax the people at Ford (into receivership) for having the gall to EARN a profit in these hard times.

Hardly surprising really, it was the clash for clunkers and taxpayers money that just gave them that profit. Shame that it won't filter back to the American people.
"Ford" just another freeloading corporation.

I can see why they are in trouble. A surprise billion dollars. WTF. A few million maybe, a billion, no! They have no idea what they have going on. Sounds like another enron.

It's a good thing Ford doesn't have to deal with unions! Can't turn a profit if you're a union shop!

David D. Ford is the only U.S. Auto Manufacturing operation not recieving Big Bailouts by the Federal Government.

Also, this is the first Annual profit since 2005 from it's Auto production facilities. This is good news for a dying industry. Also, were you aware that U.S. Corporate Taxes are the SECOND HIGHEST IN THE WORLD!

Mindsets such as yours predominate the UAW, and will likely call the downfall of the last American Auto manufacturing facilities in America.

At the first sign that Ford was going to make a profit, the UAW rejected Ford's contract offer citing that the company really didn't need any more concessions (even though their costs are not on par with GM and Chrysler). Ford should just say "No" to the UAW's demands. If the UAW wants to go on strike, let them. There are plenty of bright, educated, energetic people who would be happy to fill those jobs at lower wages. They would have no problem crossing a pickett line because most Americans have no respect for unions any more.

Since layoffs were part of the reason for Fords ability to make a profit and since the unions don't want Ford to have Competitive balance with Government Motors and that other mess Chrysler why don't these idiots understand that if ford is profitable they get to keep their jobs??? if not no job, i guess no job under Obama equates to a free ride and if we break Ford the government will buy it and get our jobs back for us.IDIOTSe

Watch the UAW jump up to strike now that Ford finally turns a profit! Then watch Ford slowly turn to other nations to actually build the cars in order to keep profitable.

Anti-corporate attitudes, while born out of frustration at our economic problems, do little to create jobs in America. The trend to attack the employers, who actually produce the wealth that allows you to make a paycheck, and pay taxes, will vote with their feet. Simply moving the jobs and the flag of the nation they are based in if we insist on treating them like they are a plague. Bite the hand that feeds, and you'll starve!

We need jobs, we need wages, and our politicians need tax dollars. Businesses provide them, we do not. If you think otherwise, open your own business and compete with them! Show us how it is done.

Not unexpected. They didn't take government money. And Consumer Reports recommends 70% of Fords, 17% of GMs and 0% of Chyrslers. Ford has actually started making decent cars, which is why people are buying them. Also, since they didn't take bail out money, some people would rather buy Ford than GM or Chrysler. 70 billion dollars taxpayer money down the drain on GM and Chrysler total. I know if I buy a new Domestic car, it will be a Ford. I won't support Government Motors and Chrysler. Chrysler was bought by Fiat, but 20 billion in taxpayer money was thrown in to sweeten the deal.

Who has been able to afford a new vehicle in this day and age? I'd love to get rid of mine, but who can afford the payments? WOW, must be nice that Ford saw a profit when no one I know traded in their car for cash for clunkers. No one wants, thinks, or can afford payments!

No surprises, this is a for profit organization. Quite unlike the two OBAMA run socialistic (for the employees only) Government Motors car companies! I wonder if GM will post a profit (3 million jobs created or saved for only BILLION$ taxed from the suckers who voted for dope & chains).
SOCIALISM IS ALWAYS A FAILURE!!!!

Bought myself a 2010 Fusion this year Its says it all. Great auto. The governemt had nothing to do with it. Bloggers in here just looking to pick a fight, typically Republican. Job well done by an American auto maker somehow has something to do with Socialism??? rediculous.

No surprise here. They didn't expect the taxpayers to bail them out with TARP $. As soon as I had heard that months ago I knew that when I need a new car I will purchase from a company that didn't expect taxpayors to fix their failed business practices.

Good, good for Ford, good for the UAW and good Detroit and Michigan. Good for GM if the Volt works. Good for Chyrsler if they can hold on. It is a geo political requirement for a large military power to have a national auto industry that is not state owned. Or maybe you'd liike to buy cars from Haliburton.

Way to go Ford! Capitalism at its finest. Take a look GM at what can be done once you shed your government masters. They are keeping you down.

Good for Ford! Now if the Governement does not keep propping up the other 2, we might get to keep Ford's existent operations here.

Mark my words, if the Unions keep insisting on bleeding the employers dry, the employers will move the jobs overseas, leaving the employees holding pink slips, with no other jobs to pursue.

Employers create wealth, not unions! They have their use, but have forgotten that if you squeeze the neck of the man who gives your unionholders neck too tight...the hand attached to it dies!

Hmm. Maybe Cash for Clunkers was designed for the rich to get new vehicles. Most poor can't afford payments and couldn't get a loan to save their rear in this day and age. The new Trickle Down Theory?

It is because they have may non-union plants. Everyone I know is boycotting anything union made and many drive Fords instead of GM, etc.

Go Ford!!!!

Too bad about Rambler Nash that was the one the Romney family owned. Too bad about studebaker, too bad that the improvemnets inspired by fighter planes in WW II were not directly incorporated in American vehicles for safety, efficency and longevity.

Boy that group at GM Ford and Chrysler knew how to sell cars. STYLING BABY. Robert Mc Namara moved those Ford Falcons and then the Mustangs. That Lee Iaccoca what salesman.
