Been there. About 1974. Was 12 ... 13 ... a "Navy brat," with my dad stationed at Subic Bay. Remember taping the windows and putting towels at the doors. And we were in military housing, on a hill, relatively safe, typhoon-considering. The natives "out in town" lived in grass, tin, and even cardboard huts, on slippery hills and near rivers and the beaches ... was scary for us; can only imagine how they felt.
