Honduras reaches deadline for new unity government (AP)

AP - Efforts to create a unity government aimed at ending Honduras' political standoff appeared to be dragging past Thursday's deadline, though representatives of the overthrown president and his rivals reported progress. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

There is one problem with the White House's stance on the "democratically elected" Zelaya and his re-instatement, he was also democratically removed!!!

Arnold L, you are so right! But it takes the foggy heads at Foggy Bottom forever to realize what the REAL situation is: Zelaya has become totally irrelevant, new elections are in a matter of weeks and a new President will take office as the Constitution provides. At least the US government has begun to see the light and realize the impossibility of their previous position which had been (erroneously) NOT to recognize the validity of a FREE AND DEMOCRATIC election, regardless whether Zelaya is restored or not.

Those that make peaceful revolution impossible only make violent revolution inevitable.

This is now a popular uprising. People will die and it all could have been avoided by having our State Department do their job. If Clinton is truly working against the President's foreign policy she should be fired. This is evident here and in Palestine.

Is it really? I never heard of that. Are you looking for wealthy men? I know a hot and interesting place named Billionairepal.com where I have met my boyfriend. You may take a look.

Zelaya at this point is irrevelant..he has been marginalized...in the end he will ask for political asylum..or face our justice in the courts...everyone who has followed this from the beginning...has come to the realization..Zelaya is a very ignorant and corrupt individual..who found himself being accepted..with others of his calibre in the ALBA Group....basically he thought he could run Honduras like his hacienda..he is NOT some kind of folk hero here...just a very common person who believes his own lies..

Sam, this so-called East European (Central European is more accurate if you knew geography) knows enough about communism and its mind-numbing and -killing propensity first hand to fight against it until my dying breath. You armchair leftists theorize all day long and refuse to look at reality -- violent revolution begets violent reaction, with the French Revolution the best example, and the poor just get poorer or killed in the process. Capitalism provides the ONLY road to lifting the poor into middle class gentility, at least those who are willing to WORK instead of lazing around waiting for government hand-outs. No system of government ever designed by man has been perfect, and capitalism is no exception -- but neither socialism not communism can hold a candle to it when it comes to helping the working poor climb out of their condition.

Sam are you relying solely on AP reporting for information? There are six parties running. Not two candidates. And the elections include mayors, congressmen and many other positions, including the appointment of governors and selection on ministers.

There are also less than a quarter million factory jobs, We are not an industrial nation, Teachers, government workers, shop keepers and taxi drivers make up another half million. So “Working Class” folks make up a maximum of twenty maybe thirty percent of the population.

The socialist resistance tried to get their franchise to fit in Honduras without stopping to assess what Hondurans wanted. Now that they have failed they may resort to terrorist activities, like the bomb they left in mall or downing more transmission lines, but the truth is, that isn’t the Honduran way and it too will fail. There is simply no groundswell for change.

What Honduras did was a gamble, since the decision to reinstate Zelaya by the National Congress can go both ways. But, we won that the US, OAS, UN and EU will recognize the results of the elections and the economic sanction will be lifted.

Also the accord was signed in good faith by both sides so that the political crisis would be resolved. We know that this is only the beginning of the healing process, and this will take some time, but is a start. In the accord Congress has no deadline about the restitution, and their decision would be respected, not only by both sides, but also by most of the world governments. Venezuela and the ALBA countries have said they will not. That's a surprise.

But now Zelaya and his most radical followers are showing signs that they will not respect the accord. I think they know that they don't have enough votes in favor and that time has run out on them.

¡VIVA HONDURAS!
